Hester Jean (Springer) Stillwagon

Hester Jean (Springer) Stillwagon, 102 years, of Uniontown, Pa, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born January 17, 1924, in Uniontown, the daughter of the late Jacob F. Springer and Catherine (Weir) Springer. Hester was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Stillwagon, and two daughters, Pamela Cindric and Emily Elizabeth Dennis. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Audrey Martin, Frank Springer, and Dorothy Hess.

Hester received her masters degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania and retired from the Laurel Highlands School District after twenty-two years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Third Presbyterian Church, an original member of Alpha Psi, served many years on the Advisory Board of Children and Youth Services, and was a Member Emeritus of the Board of Laurel House. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, sewing, singing, and gardening. Hester was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lovingly called Nana.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, James Stillwagon (Natalie) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Edward Stillwagon II (Gladys) of Glassboro, NJ, a sister Linda Scott of Uniontown, PA, son-in-law Edward Cindric of Baltimore, MD, eight grandchildren, Sherry, Jason, Jimmy, Jeremy, Sarah, Jonathan, Cassie, and Edward III, eleven great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Brooke, Jadyn, Evan, Brody, Lucas, Hunter, Kendall, Presley, Baron, and Aria, and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by so many, however her legacy will live on in the children she taught and in the generations of a family she built with love.

Family and friends will be received in the Shell Funeral Home, Inc., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, PA, on Wednesday, March 4th, from 3:00 until 7:00, and on Thursday, March 5th, until 11:00 AM, the hour of service, with Pastor Kenneth Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Uniontown Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union Street, Uniontown, PA. 15401. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Monarch Meadows Personal Care Home, who became like family, and OSPTA hospice, who made her transition peaceful.
